it was magnificent. i cried in so many parts, i need to buy the physical copy to write down everything in my journal.
i'm not the biggest fan of poetry - so if you aren't too - trust me, pick it up. it was worth it.
there's a reason why so many people hyped this book last year and it deserves all the praise.
i would die to have a book about xiomara's brother.
anyway elizabeth acevedo is now a must-read-author for me, and i can't wait to ...more

This was a wonderfully heartbreaking story, if that makes sense. I loved how it ended and how Xio went and spoke with Father Sean before talking with her mother. I was ready to scream when her mother did what she did. I couldn't believe a mother could do something like that. I loved how she called her brother Twin rather by his name and also glad things came full circle with Aman and also her father. This book was such a surprise for me. I was a little hesitant because it is written in verse but this hit me on so many levels. This book was a journey and a reminder for me of things that I forgot in my own experiences. It had me in tears a few times and is an incredible read! Highly recommended!
