This was a engaging read. Even though I wouldn't say the title is completely inaccurate, it is a bit misleading. This edition of The Code Book is more of a synopsis of code history and code breakthrough both on the code making side and the code breaking side.
The genius of some of those code makers and breakers is just astonishing. In addition to the great historical overview, it also discusses some of the security and ethical questions that we must face in this digital world.

An interesting discussion in our at work book group but an inconsistent book. The last two chapters, especially the one on quantum issues, were not strong ones. The earlier chapters went into the weeds on details. But the one on solving ancient texts were brilliant. And the Enigma chapters were fine. Worth reading but I'd remembered it being better.

Codebreaking is such a fascinating field. I think it would do a world of good to teach young people about developing and breaking ciphers from an early age, so they truly understand where all the weaknesses lie and when they can possibly get away with something simpler.
