The 2014-2016 West African Ebola outbreak devastated three nations and killed thousands. It was especially tragic in how it killed skilled and compassionate caretakers, people who had dedicated their lives to treating terrifying infectious diseases in their home countries. With that knowledge in mind, it is difficult to meld Preston’s emotionally heightened and hyperbolic writing style with the heartbreaking reality that this outbreak doesn’t need to be made thrilling or suspenseful to understan ...more
