Exceptional, brilliant, tragic, and mind altering.

I first watched the movie by the same title and felt as if I missed so much. It turned out to be the case. The entire first half of the book was about Ramanujan's life before working with G. H. Hardy. So many shocking details; not the least of which was that fact that no university in India would allow Ramanujan entrance because he continued to fail his English exams. I had first read about Ramanujan in a long-ago article in Omni magazine (yes that long ago). I had read snippets about him since, but decided to try this dedicate biography. I liked that the author explicitly did not want to focus on the bio to the exclusion of the math or vice versa (and I love math). This was a very interesting journey of an amazing individual who had such natural genius for mathematics in spite of (or perhaps, because of) no formal training in it during his youth.
