New Moon was downright painful and I did exactly what Ms Meyer suggests. I read the novel, skimming the middle 300 pages or so during which Edward is gone, and then went back and reread it at a slower pace to actually process the developments. Since that original reading, in the dozens or retreads, I have never once read it all the way through. I've gone back to skimming through the painful absence of Edward.

Ms Meyer's gift for emotional writing is absolutely at the forefront in her description ...more
