I would recommend reading the book before watching the show. I didn't, and I obsessed over trying to match the characters in the book to the ones on the show.

While I definitely enjoyed reading this book after having watched the TV show and comparing the characters and events in the two, I think this book is great even on its own for people who haven't seen the show. And having grown up a 5-minute drive from the prison where Piper does her time added a little extra interest for me too :)

I thought this book had so much untapped potential and that the characters and themes fell flat throughout.
I really enjoyed this thoughtful account of one woman's experience in the current US corrections system. It was well-written and very easy to read, and provided much food for thought. An excellent book club selection!
