What can I say about The Hunger Games that hasn't already been said?

It's terrific! Taken.
It's gripping! Taken.
It's controversial! Taken.
It's extremely hard to put down! Taken.

My favorite character was Peeta Mellark. I liked the cliffhanger at the end.

Wow. Where to begin? Let's start off by saying that if half-ratings were available, this would in reality be a 4.5, but for the sake of this system I hate to round up....rounding down would be an injustice.

Now, moving on to other things...such as Ms. Suzanne Collins---the author. I don't know how she does it, but she does it so well that I am really close to hating her for it. What exactly is "it" that I'm precisely talking about? The endings of her books. Both series I begin, both I am left wi Wow. Where to begin? Both series I begin, both I am left with the same feeling of needing the next book placed in by hands by some unknown magical force. Can someone please give me the next Hunger Games book through teleportation? Because I was left wondering what in the heck just happened and why is this relationship left unresolved??? The same thing happened in Gregor the Overlander. I finished it and because I was left hanging for the cliff, I scrambled to get the next book. Why is she so good at this?? It's almost inhuman and totally unfair! In all honesty, I love it, but I love it so much I despise it. Here are a couple questions I didn't have answered: (view spoiler)

The story: Katniss lives in an area of a corrupted country where food is scarce and can only be obtained by breaking a few rules...but everyone just overlooks all this. This "District" is basically as poor and disgusting as Districts go. Katniss has a little sister and completely-out-of-it-mother. Her dad died in a mining accident, because District 12 is known mostly for their coal. Her little sister ends up being chosen for the games. So Katniss, out of love, takes her place. Peeta is the baker's son and is also chosen to partake in the games.
They will be mentored by a drunk who somehow manages to maintain his soberness. They are surrounded by a bunch of yuppie-flakes. & Peeta is harboring a secret crush that he has had on Katniss for the longest time ever!! But they can't be together, because all but one person dies in the games......this could be interesting.

It was!!!!!! I was gripped. I spent a night reading this...just a couple of hours nothing much. Sleep deprivation has no effect on me in the face of a good book....which this was. I can't really say much without ruining something, so I won't. I will cut this here and just say: "I need book 2, because I need things resolved. I am at the mercy of Suzanne Collins pen. I hope this resolves in a good way, because this could very easily get upsetting. Read this book, hopefully it doesn't disappoint." It didn't disappoint me,...that is for sure. =) **So excited to hear about the movie, cannot wait to see it** ...more

5/5 stars; some of my favorite and least favorite characters of all time are in this book series. I still standby my opinion on Katniss being one of the worst heroines of all time but the book itself is still fantastic. I think I appreciate and understand more of Katniss now though. She's still very frustrating but at least in this book, she isn't intolerable yet. Haymitch is still one of my favorite characters ever written so that hasn't changed and Peeta will always have soft spot in my heart. ...more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. When I first started reading The Hunger Games, the first aspect I noted is that this is a very fast-paced book. I think its speed contributes to its popularity, especially with the young audience it is geared toward.
Right away, I did not like the character of Katniss.
They introduced her on the very first page as having tried to drown a weak kitten, and I know why the author wrote it, but it still is not something I like in a character.

Trying to survive is the hardest thing when your in the games! Prim is called to be in the games and Katniss stands up and states.... NO! I WILL TAKE HER PLACE! fighting through the games with Peeta by her side. Soon finding out that Peeta loves her she fight to save both of their lives!
