Update: I鈥檓 not going to change my rating because I genuinely enjoyed it when I read it, but why did no one tell me that Nasir is 20 and Zafira is 17?? I had to find it out from fandom wiki. That鈥檚 a minor and an adult. I really hope the wiki made an error because if not, yikes鈥�

this book gave me like 6 heart attacks. One for each Sister.

I want to say this is one of my new favorites, and I have a feeling that if it was one of the first fantasy books I鈥檝e ever read it probably would be. But either way, I really like it and I would 100% recommend it and will probably obsess over it so yeah it鈥檚 a favorite.

So where do I begin鈥� I guess I鈥檒l start with the characters. Zafira is the heart of my heart and the moon of my soul. I adored her character, and the little tiny parts o this book gave me like 6 heart attacks. One for each Sister.

So where do I begin鈥� I guess I鈥檒l start with the characters. Zafira is the heart of my heart and the moon of my soul. I adored her character, and the little tiny parts of her that made her who she was. She was so detailed and real, and I kinda want to be her. She was so complex and unique, I just loved her. Then comes Nasir. You think you鈥檒l never get tired of morally grey characters with daddy issues, but that鈥檚 what Nasir felt to me. Tired and overdone. The only times I really appreciated him was when he was with Zafira or Altair. Speaking of Altair鈥� MY MAN!! the very first character I got emotionally attached and that plot twist near the beginning sent me tumbling toward my first heart attack of this book. I loved seeing his layers and obviously I鈥檓 a simp for the utterly charming character with a splendid personality. Benyamin and Kifah were just eh. I didn鈥檛 really have any feelings for them.

Ok now the plot. Again, the plot felt overdone, but i guess that鈥檚 what I get for reading too many ya fantasy novels. Some of the plot twists seemed to just stumble out of the darkness, and as much as they were surprising, they were that typical 鈥渙h of course鈥� ya fantasy novel plot twist. I very much enjoyed the pacing though because I loved getting attached to Zafira鈥檚 home and family before she actually went off on her quest, it made all the difference for me.

The world will always be my favorite part. Loved the safi n and the idea of Sharr and the mythology. The magic was a bit iffy, like these dealing with shadows was kinda confusing but I鈥檓 very slow so it might catch up to me soon.

The language鈥� I have no words. So beautiful. So heartbreaking. So perfect.

Anyways, will I recommend this book? HECK YEAH IT WAS GREAT. Maybe it just needs to sit in my head for a bit before I can actually love it. You know what that means *scrolls through Pinterest fanart* ...more
