I enjoyed all the characters. Honestly, I get a little Sylvia'd out, so new characters or other Elm Creek quilters perspectives are great.
I did not like that the book seemed to single out conservatives as the reason that every character (who all happened to be employed by the government)was losing their job. Um, could this be because the private sector is losing their jobs? Yeah, so all of the government employees are going to be put at risk too.

I always enjoy the Elm Creek Quilters books and get pulled into the story. In this one, I found myself wondering if the stories about Pauline's trials with her quilt guild and Michaela's problems with becoming a cheerleader weren't a bit frivolous. Then I realized that they were stories about women who were passionate about their interests and that pushed my rating of 2 stars up to 3 stars. Once I got past the descriptions of the too-good-to-be-true food and my feeling that Sarah's twins could u

Reading an Elm Creek Quilts novel is like visiting with a bunch of friends that you haven't seen in a while and you pick up like no time has past.
The Giving Quilt is such a beautiful story. I really enjoy how Jennifer Chiaverini explores each character with their own chapter and then weaves them all together seamlessly. There are so many wonderful, charitable ideas in this book. Even though it's a fictional tale, I hope it encourages more giving. The characters, the story, the ideas in The Givi ...more

I agree with other reviewers who have commented that this book is more like a collection of short stories about the women who attend a special Quiltsgiving session at The Elm Creek Quilt Camp, rather than an novel that features the teachers who teach quilting, as in many of the author's previous books. As such this book had the potential to disappoint.

A group of quilters arrive for Quiltsgiving at Elm Creek Manor, to spend a week making quilts for Project Linus and other charities. Five of the quilters are particularly glad to spend the week quilting, and for very different reasons. As we learn their stories, we learn about the incredible heritage of giving that surrounds the quilting community. Recommended.
