I always struggle with the movie adaptation of a book I love. When the director makes choices about details that do not match the images I have created, I am upset. We both can’t be right, after all, and I can’t be wrong. That was my experience with this fictional account of the story of King David. This is obviously well-researched and Brooks is faithful to the elements of the story recorded in Scripture. But, it was all those pesky details that did not match the images in my head. Where does a

For me, very average marks for this story of David a shepard boy who would slay Goliath, become King of Judea, and author many Psalms narrated by his prophet and seer Natan. I’m a Geraldine Brooks fan and usually enjoy her historical fiction work but this was not my favorite. As noted by others I also didn’t care for the use of mostly Hebrew names. I did learn much about David who sadly was not all that likeable .... hmm
