Roxane Gay crushes your spirit and shreds your heart but somehow I manage to keep turning her pages. Her writing is one of a kind. Never one to hold back on reality of what it means to be a woman in this world. This book explores the lives of women who, because of sex, race, class or demeanor have been silenced or deemed “difficult". The collection of short stories will haunt you, hurt you and make you uncomfortable. That is the beauty of Gay's writing, you feel every word!

Again, love/hate reaction Roxane!! (This is the fourth book I’ve read by her, so we are on a first name basis.) The stories in the first half of the book, I ABSOLUTELY loved!! I was downright pissed off that they were short stories and not full length books!! The stories didn’t have a defined ending and I was frustrated wanting to know what happened!! Then the second part of the book happened...it was dark and overly sexualized and a clear reflection of the many demons Roxane battles with person
