The lovely ink and watercolor paintings and text tell the true story of the female elephant seal who wanted to stay in the Avon River which flows through Christchurch, New Zealand. The seal had been towed away several times, as far as several hundred miles away, but the seal always found her way back. Based on the true story of Elizabeth, Queen of the Seas, an elephant seal that lived in a river in Christchurch, New Zealand. The town made several attempts to relocate her because she often would lie in the middle of the road. Once they figured out she would just keep coming back they made a seal crossing sign.

I LOVED this story!

I really liked this book, but some of the drawings seemed pretty deformed with the shape of Elizabeth. Sometimes I couldn't even recognize what type of animal she was. Good book, but some drawings were pretty bad.

I think Colorado children will love this book based upon the true story of the Elephant Seal from Christchurch New Zealand. True stories always appeal to the Colorado kids.
