Even though, most of the information in this book was familiar to me (I read Indian No More which is also by Traci Sorell), this will be a good book for classrooms, educators and caregivers to use as an introduction of the history of Native Americans.

In seeking to find meaning for the word truth, other words, regardless of the source make a consistent appearance. The word fact is used repeatedly. Facts exist, occur, and are observable. They can be verified through differing forms of measurement.

Agree with other reviewers that this is not a readaloud for younger grades; I had it on my Sibert long list but I think the 2nd graders' eyes will glaze over. However, I will recommend it to the 5th grade teacher who is still doing Native American tribe reports at Thanksgiving time. Native American history didn't stop in the 1700s. The way nations were treated is a travesty, as is the fact that rez life is so hard.

I love the way the author chose to tell these Native American truths - through class presentations. Extensive back matter. Excellent.
