Love this gentle story with Finn, who has big feelings and is having a bad day, so wants to stay beneath their blanket and their grandpa, who remembers what lies beneath. "Everyone is more than waht you see./Beneath appearances are experiences. Beneath actions are explantations./Beneath what's different is what's the same."

Delightful tale of a crabby granddaughter and an understanding grandfather. The grandfather shows the granddaughter that it is important to think about what is "beneath." Charming illustrations, but I don't see it getting a medal.

So sweet!

When Finn is feeling upset, Grandpa has them go on a walk and talks about what is hidden beneath surfaces.
Reminded me of when my Grandmother took me out to the garden after I was hurt. I wasn't impressed at the time, but finally gave up crying because she wasn't reacting to my tears. Not sure of the child appeal, but might be nice way to show children that nature can help calm and to remember that there might be more than is apparent. ...more
