A high energy picture book that celebrates the "hustle and bustle" energy of the Bronx. The fast paced lyrical text and big and bold gorgeous illustrations work together beautifully to describe the dynamic street activity. A truly joyful homage to a Bronx neighborhood!

"My block looks like
a collision of cultures
a melting pot of cool
a burst of life
my favorite groove

my city
my hood
my block
my home

my village
my family
my friends
my soul!"

Janelle Harper's words sing and Frank Morrison's illustrations pack in pure joy and hope and community. These two have worked together a story that is as much poem as story and the music can be heard by all who live anywhere, especially when read aloud!

So many children need books like this one and I hope they get them in their libraries, school or public.

I can see teachers using it as a mentor for kids drawing or writing about their block (or one of the other words for neighborhood).

Ok the illustrations in this book are stunning! Just beautiful. The text has a great rhythm and pairs well with the illustrations to bring the vibrant, diverse city to life. Look forward to sharing this with students.
