The writing is superb and the story is interesting, and still something held me at arm's length. I had compassion for the characters but never felt true empathy.

For such a short book, it took me quite a while to read it. I thought about not finishing it, but, in the end, I am glad I read it.
Beautifully written story about love and loss.
I don't know if I could have enjoyed this book more if I were reading it rather than listening to the horribly affected, distracting brogue of John Lee.
I think the idea of a memoir like this is intriguing but I found the story flat and saccharine and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Too much sea salt... ...more
