I read that this was an account of a walk around the M25 and had a vague image of Sinclair tramping around the hard shoulder with vehicles whizzing by, but of course you're not allowed to do that. Instead he walked through towns and villages close to its path. And he didn't do it all at once, as I expected, camping or B&B'ing along the way - he did it in chunks of around 10 miles at a time, about once a month, over a whole year (1999).
