If you liked The Swimming Pool Library, you might like this book. This novel is about a pair of men who had rough childhoods and lousy parents. One is a genius and not really interested in sex, maybe an approximation of a guy with Aspergers, but the character is not very realistic. The other is a thuggish sex-addicted jerk who started out obsessed with sex even as a younger boy. I'd heard this was a misogynistic book and I expected to hate it, but no. Perhaps there is one misogynistic character, but even he didn't really hate women. It doesn't compare with, for example, Martin Amis's novels in the misogyny stakes, although there is a lot of gratuitous sex.

Hmmmm, I really struggled with this book. On the one hand it was really well-written, on the other hand I just felt like I wasn't the target audience for this book. I am however glad that I finished the book, because the last two pages turned out to be the best pages.
