This novella length story by Russian author Nikolai Leskov is not really a story with a plot but a Russian Candide, The Unfortunate Traveler, or The Golden Ass. They're not hard to read but a little goes a long ways so glad this was short dip into "if it wasn't for bad luck there would be no luck at all". ...more
