Eduardo Galeano was a was an Uruguayan journalist, writer and novelist considered, a literary giant of the Latin American left". In this work of fiction that reads like history and is history the author presents the history of America (Canada, US, Mexico, Central, and South America in this trilogy The Memory of Fire that covers the time period of the 1500s to 1984. The three volumes of this work are a revelation. Galeaono writes a series of vignettes which span the whole history of the Americas from stories of creation to 1984. He concentrates particularly on Central and South America and the treatment of indigenous peoples by colonial forces and U.S. imperialism, but the United States gets some coverage and Canada hardly at all.
