Comedy and tragedy, the novel looks at human existence. Geographically it connects Prague, Geneva, Paris, Thailand and the United States. Milan Kundera's masterwork "Unbearable Lightness of Being" made an indelible impression on me as a young man. It is an incredible work of existential fiction that somehow manages to carry out the promise of that title with meaning, insight and with a powerful human connection.
Very readable, but requires concentration. I loved it. I'm almost afraid to go back and read it again, because I'm afraid it might not have the same power the second time around.... twenty some years later. ...more
