Reason read: 2025, March botm. Published 1932. Scottish author. Scottish writer Lewis Grassic Gibbon. It is considered one of the most important Scottish novels of the 20th century. I almost didn’t read this book because I struggled so much the opening chapter. As the author’s introduction says, this is an attempt to be true to Scottish dialect. There’s a glossary, and I spent a lot of time trying to translate. (I later read that Gibbon actually advised American readers to skip the prelude they found it too difficult.)
