I was bored of this book before the alchemist even appeared. This is a self help/motivational book vaguely disguised as story (self labeled a fable). I shan't be reading again or recommending to anyone. ...more

I picked this up because my pre-teen so said it was his favorite book. I can see why. I thought it was entertaining and very well-written. While there is a clear worldview portrayed in the life of the narrator, I didn't see this as a philosophical book. There's no attempt to present a persuasive argument about whether or why there is meaning, reality, or knowledge. While some may mis-classify the genre as philophy, it was a good story, and I recommend it for that. ...more
