A good book can take places you’ve never been.

A great book not only takes you to places you’ve never been, but has those places linger in your thoughts after the final page is turned.

CW: Police Brutality, Murder of Black Teenager, Racism, Drug Use, Abuse, Parental Abuse, Spousal Abuse.

This book is beautiful and heart breaking. It is such an important piece of literature, and an important book for everyone to read. But don't just read this book. Read other books from Black authors and read their stories, too.

PERSONAL REVIEW -
This is a jarring book. For anyone who is not from this type of setting, it seems unreal - and hyper-real - at the same time. It is honest in a way that opens the door to outsiders and says, "Learn from me." I can't say that I enjoyed reading this book, but I an exceedingly glad that I read it.

TEACHER REVIEW -
Every teacher should read this book. What you do with it after that is dependent upon your group of students. Read it, even if you know that your school is not ready for
