What Members Thought

This book was scary and gross. Definitely a good one to recommend to horror fans.
Basically you take a scout troop and strand them on an island alone with their Scoutmaster to earn some survival badges. An infected man comes and hilarity ensues. (Not really, I was crying in my pillow I was so scared. And grossed out.) Did I mention not to eat while reading this book? Go ahead, do it. See what happens.
The characters aren't very likable but I think that adds to the horror. 3 1/2 stars. ...more

REVIEW
What can I say about this book??
I love horror books, I was a mahoosive Stephen King fan when I was younger, and literally hoovered up anything he wrote, also James Herbert and Dean Koontz, so I have read my fair share of yeuch throughout the years. ........oh but this book!!!
Stephen King reviewed this on GR and said that it scared the shit out of him, that means you have to read it right??
I can safely say that this is the only book that has EVER made me gag!

"Everybody thought they knew what had happened on that island. Everyone was an expert. But they didn't really know. What they thought was bad. What really happened was even worse."
Wow, this is a very good, very gruesome horror story. It's gross and awful in all the ways it can be - it has animal torture, kid torture, squishy things that wiggle under the skin, puking, blood, guts, bullying and so much more. It hits all the right cords to make you uncomfortable - I spent many pages of the book pul ...more

Wow. This book scared the shit out of me, and that's really saying something- I've been reading horror for a long time. Well written. Upsetting and distressing at times. Not for faint of heart or sensitive people. Not even for me, honestly. It lingers. Very bleak.

I have to admit that I'm disappointed. All the five star reviews and I considered stopping at times. It is a terrifying subject simply because "worms" are real and desperate people use them to lose weight. But that's really all. I did feel terrible for the boys though. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it.
