"Don't open your eyes."
The cover clearly screams at you not to open your eyes. The story is wonderful, so much more scary for what you can imagine more than what you can see. Because this story is told in the dark - it's told through blindfolds and strained ears. Through scent and touch but almost never sight. Because to look - and to see - is to go mad.
This is a masterful story, one read best in the near dark with a flashlight and no sound. Your heart will race, your breathing will quicken as t ...more

This was a reread for me, but it was on our ŷ group (A Million More Pages, you should totally join, it's awesome!) as a Book of the Month, so ya know...points!

Wow. Let me unscrew my mind for a minute. I still don't have a clue what was happening in this book.
If you like creepy psychological horror/mystery/dystopia, you should give this book a try. I refuse to tell you beyond what you can get from the book description, because you should go in blind (see what I did there?)
Just do it. But don't read the part in the bar at night. Or read it and don't cry to me later. You've been warned. ...more

I tossed up between three and four stars for this. I enjoyed it - it was a good story with great suspense. I liked the way the past and the present were interleaved so, although you knew that Malorie and the children were alone right at the outset, therefore something had happened to the rest of the housemates, you didn't find out how or why until the end. But I found both the ending and the message of the book a bit unsatisfying. I had read reviews so I knew not everything was resolved and you
