I can't work out if I liked this book or not. There were things I didn't like about this book and things I thought were okay.

Dark Times is the start of a series about a woman called Susannah, who in the 16th century got falsely accused of witchcraft whilst she was pregnant. She gives birth to her baby in a cell, then the baby dies soon after, leaving her bitter and angry. Soon after that she is burnt as a witch. However, she is offered a second chance at life by a Demon in exchange for her soul I can't work out if I liked this book or not. There were things I didn't like about this book and things I thought were okay.

However, she is offered a second chance at life by a Demon in exchange for her soul and in her hatred and bitterness she agrees and becomes an immortal assassin. But once she reaches the 20th century after hundreds of years being an Ageless assassin, he conscience finally catches up with her. She breaks her contract with the Demon and refuses to kill for him anymore; however, the only way to stop her self from burning eternally in hell for what she has done is to save as many lifes as she has taken, to even the balance. And this is when Maliha Crayne comes to life and the story truely begins.

I picked this book up as I like a good redemption story and it made a change to have the character who needs redeeming as a woman. Your normal cold hearted assassin tends to be a man I have found. However, I think the main reason I didn't really enjoy this book as much as others is because I didn't really like Susannah/Maliha. I am not sure why and this might just be a personal thing, but frankly I just found her annoying.

However the story has a decent mystery to it and some of the action in the book was quite good. The biggest point I like about this book is the mythology, I found that really interesting and I liked the idea of the Ageless and the Demons.

What I didn't like about this book was as I said above, the characters, they were abit flat, especially Maliha's love interest Jake. Although the book leaves you on a bit of a cliffhanger on him, so maybe I will reserve judgement on him entirely. But from just this book he seemed abit bland. Also the story itself, it didn't really catch my attention and I kept guessing (correctly) what was going to happen.

Anyways, I wouldn't really recommend this book, but it is an okay read if you have run out of anything else and I am glad I got it from the library rather then buying it. I will read the next book when it comes out, just so I know what happens with the cliffhanger at the end (darn sneaky authors! lol) but I am not in a hurry and can wait until the library gets it in.

I don't want to give a full review of this one, cause I honestly have been reading it on and off for the past year. I finally decided to have some me-time and start reading again so I finally finished it.

I did like the action, and the characters. I however didn't like how it jumped around so much, I got confused a few times and had to adjust a lot. I liked it enough to want to find out what happens to the main character Maliha and her friends though. ...more
