I'm so glad I finally read this one! Just excellent--I really enjoyed it! Bastien was such a bad boy hero (unlike any I've ever read). I was so glad that Chloe was able to melt that 'black ice' around his cold heart! This book was just non stop action--I can't wait to read the rest in the series! Thanks, Eastofoz, for the recommendation!

This was a pretty strange book for me.
I didn't particularly care for the hero, but in a weird way, I was still rooting for him. The heroine, except for some moments, was too TSTL for me. The ending left much to be desired in my opinion, but considering the nature of their relationship, a sappy one would not be believable.
Still, it piqued my interest enough that I will continue to read the series (plus,...well I own all of them..LOL), but I'm in no rush, and would probably paced them in between ...more

Black Ice is the book that made me an Anne Stuart fan. As a classic author in the genre, I had heard many good things about Ms. Stuart's work from my fellow readers. Now I understand why.
I would recommend Black Ice, first entry in the Ice series, to more than just romantic suspense fans. There are lots of thrills, chilling suspense and some really complex characters that don't fit within the romance genre. I loved that aspect of it. The first book in the Ice series by Anne Stuart. Chloe Underwood is a translator and takes a job at a remote chateau. But she discovers too much about her employers and they want her dead. Bastien Toussaint is the ultimate anti-hero. He is a cold and ruthless killer working for an organization that sanctions the killings for the greater good. I liked it. I normally would have a problem with a hero of his sort but it worked in this story. I'll be seeking out more from this author.

Book 1 in the Ice series
Wow! I have never read anything like this book before. I mean, I have read romantic suspense before, but never one that had such a dark and dangerous hero! I think I’m hooked!
Chloe Underwood is an American living in Paris translating children’s books. She fills in for her friend/co-worker/roommate for a weekend translating a business conference at a remote chateau. Bastien Toussaint is a spy; a member of a mysterious organization called the Committee is also at the confer ...more

This book wasn't that bad, it was just that at the 70% mark in the book I wanted to shake the heroine badly. She just kept annoying me by freaking out, which granted is normal in the circumstances, but I like my heroines a bit tougher. I loved Bastion, but the the main problem I had was that the romance was secondary to all the getting away from the bad guys. This is why I don't read a lot in this genre. It was good enough where I'll read the next book in the series.
