What a great start to a highlander series! I鈥檒l be honest, until now I instantly dismissed any Maya Banks book. After reading, (and not really liking), her erotic m茅nage book 鈥楥olters鈥� Woman鈥� a few years ago, I just knew she wasn鈥檛 an author for me. But, never say never, right? Right. The first book in Maya Banks' McCabe series, set in Medieval Scotland. Googling in the information provided in the novel I believe this story is set around the year 1134. The heroine, Mairin, is stolen from an abbey where she was hiding. Mairin escapes and ends up with hero, Ewan McCabe. While a bit spicy in places I did find it sweet. This was my first Maya Banks' book. Considering that I owned the first 5 books of her Sweet series, I had always assumed that my first book of hers would be from that series. However, somehow, I ended up reading a historical Scottish romance instead.

In Bed with a Highlander feels like a typical HR. You have the feisty but tender-hearted damsel in distress, the arrogant but sexy laird, the 'forced' wedding, political intrigue, kidnappings and heroic rescues. But as most romance readers would say ...more

This was an enjoyable read which put me in mind of some of Julie Garwoods' historical books. Not as well executed (JG is a 5+ author for me), but still an enjoyable read.

A little too cut-and-paste for me. I鈥檝e read this story numerous times and there was nothing to set it apart. The highlanders were generic and you could have swapped any of them out for the hero of the story. There was nothing particularly special about the writing that would make me want to grab more books by this author, no nuance to the plot or interaction or chemistry between the characters. I ended up skimming much of it, it was almost a dnf.

Mairin and Ewan

Well I am a huge fan of Julie Garwood historicals and this read just like one of those. This was a really good book. I loved the relationship between Ewan and his brothers. They are a solid, devoted family unit. Watching Ewan win Mairin over was fun.
