Purkiss' book is a very good and easily accessible look at how society views fairies and other little folk. She starts, mostly, in the Middle Ages and works her way up to the present day, including a quick look at how fan fiction uses fairy folk. She also mixes in history, dealing with Scottish witch trials among other historical events. ...more
