3.5 stars. I liked the story, and it's interesting that some of the events and timelines in this book were the same as in Passenger, which I just finished reading before starting this one. I had no idea that the story had (view spoiler). If I had know about that, I would have jumped all over this sooner! The main character, Jacob, is a brave idiot. He's so determined to find out about his grandfather's past that he trespasses on property that could very well be haunted or just plain dangerous. What happens near the end of the book could be compared to something like Alice in Wonderland or A Midnight in Paris. To be honest I'm torn between Jacob actually being crazy and him having stumble into some kind of invisible reality-altering machine. I liked it. ...more

I think what really drew me in though was that it started with his grandfather telling him stories and most of the book focused on his and his grandfather's relationship; my grandfather and I are very close in that way, so immediately I felt a connection with Jacob.
I do agree with some of the reviews about it being a bit scattered at time
