This review is a metaphor. I just place it here, with the full potential of a rant.
It could have been about the (not-so) ‘unfair life of these kids, about this cancer story which asks for our emotional involvement (pity? empathy?) with these cancer victims who can only be called extremely lucky by any measure among the majority of the cancer patients in the world the people who does not even have the money to diagnose it, let alone fight it. I could replicate the “author’s rant, and add th ...more

Fourth read 2023:
Found even more appreciation and wonder in this amazing story.
Third read 2021:
I don’t recall crying the first two times I read this book. I cried this time. One of my favorite ya books of all time.
First read 2015:
Another surprise. I put this off for a long time figuring it would be another overrated book. It wasn't. John Green, at least in this one, lives up to the hype. Almost as good as Eleanor and Park but not quite. ...more

What a beautiful, heartfelt, honest book. John Green does a wonderful job writing as a young teenage girl, as well as conveying all of the emotions and difficulties that come with fighting cancer. This book had me tearing up and full out crying multiple times, but also made me laugh - Green can make light of even the darkest of situations. I loved it and recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Okay, let’s just get this out right away because it’s surely not a spoiler but TOTALLY relevant to the ahmazingness of this book.
The kids in The Fault in Our Stars have Cancer. All of them. They all meet in a survivor’s support group, but it’s one of those survivor groups where some are surviving with Cancer. Like Hazel. She’s this cool kid who lugs around an oxygen tank because she was diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer and there were tumors in your lungs but some miracle treatment shrunk ...more

Wow. So much goodness in here, that I almost don't know where to start.
Ok, let's start with the rating. This is a 5-star book....almost. If you can deal with a book about teens with cancer, who have very adult vocabularies, you will give this a 5. I knocked it to a 4 because of some inconsistencies, but that isn't going to stop me from telling everyone I know to read this book.

I must be in the minority in this but for some reason this book was just not sitting right by me. I agree with someone else who mentioned that the characters were just WAY too wise for their respective ages and that made the book very unbelievable. It was such an easy read and the pages did flow quickly together.

This is my big ten. So says Hazel Grace.
This book make me feel like I was repeatedly stabbed and had involuntary jags of crying - all while on a plane. Great experience. Aside from the few HOURS of public humiliation of crying uncontrollable, (tip: read in the privacy of your own home, car, office) this is an amazing book.

Sweet story. You can't help but like the two main characters.
