It鈥檚 taken me a while to get my head around this book. I recently finished it and I鈥檇 be lying if I didn鈥檛 admit that there were parts that broke my heart and shattered my soul but at the end of the day I feel like Suzanne Collins wrote it right. While I have no doubt there are people out there who will disagree with me, I honestly feel that for Collins to have writte Mockingjay marks the end of The Hunger Games series and Collins doesn鈥檛 disappoint with her heart-wrenching, action packed ending!

While I have no doubt there are people out there who will disagree with me, I honestly feel that for Collins to have written this book any other way would have been a betrayal to the series.

Before I go into the rest of my review, there鈥檚 something I need to say. The Hunger Games series houses a dark, harsh world filled with pain and torment. Collins has made this clear from the very beginning and in this book she truly backs up her claims. You can鈥檛 have a dystopian world of that magnitude where people suffer so much and not show it. Suzanne Collins was brave enough and daring enough to show the loss, however heartbreaking, that her characters faced and went through. She didn鈥檛 sugar-coat it. It was agonizing and it was painful, but it was REAL. She showed the necessary evils of war in a way that was undeniable and that you couldn鈥檛 hide from. Nothing was glossed over with the pain and the deaths of the characters depicted exactly how I think they should have been. Ordinarily endings that aren鈥檛 extremely happy annoy me, as I feel cheated, but here I feel like nothing else would have been enough to truly strengthen the events of this series. Was I heartbroken to see characters I鈥檇 come to love loose their lives? Of course! Did I hate seeing Peeta and Katniss become shadows of the people they鈥檇 once been? Good lord, yes! But was it the right thing for Suzanne Collins to show after everything that has happened in this series? Absolutely!

I feel ripped and raw after reading this book. If ever a book managed to tear my heart into a million pieces it鈥檚 this one. This was a never ending ride of torment. Loss, pain, betrayal....they were all themes within this book that you couldn鈥檛 hide from. So many things seemed senseless and meaningless, from the deaths of certain characters to the decisions and actions of others. It was heart-breaking. Collins made me feel. And feel it all! She didn鈥檛 let me read an action packed, war story with a happy, Hollywood ending. Instead she forced me to read a book that was so emotional, despite it鈥檚 YA Fiction status, that every moment engraved itself in my heart. I should hate her for this....but I don鈥檛. And here鈥檚 why....I think she was true to the human spirit. There鈥檚 only so much a person can take before they begin to fray and break and in this series Collins wrote Katniss in such a way that true to this.

Katniss Everdeen is one of the strongest heroines out there....even though she鈥檚 a shadow of who she was by the end of this book. It鈥檚 understandable that she crumbled. No one can expect to go through so much and not be left scarred, both physically and mentally. Katniss鈥檚 character is perfect in my eyes. She鈥檚 real and she鈥檚 believable and fits perfectly within the story. She was strong when it counted despite her pain and even though she鈥檒l never be the person she once was I think she still managed to accomplish exactly what mattered. Oh, my heart bleeds for her. She鈥檒l never be able to completely let go of the past, nor will Peeta, but I think in the end Collins wrote this perfectly too.

I was marginally surprised with the way the 鈥渓ove triangle鈥� between Katniss, Peeta and Gale was resolved. In fact I feel slightly cheated. I expected there to be a bit more fight, more indecision, instead Gale just more or less walked out of Katniss鈥檚 life. I still agree that had things been different, Katniss still would have found her way back to Peeta, he was just the one she was meant to be with, but I would have like a deeper, more meaningful resolve between the three of them. However, in the end I think Katniss is right to be with Peeta. They鈥檙e very different people, and considering how much they鈥檙e both irreversibly altered after the events of this book, I still feel like they balance one another out. They鈥檙e able to understand each others pain and heal one another. I don鈥檛 think Gale would have ever been able to do that for Katniss. As Collins put it....she needed Peeta.

And yet despite the anguish and devastation left over at the end of this book, Collins leaves this series with little rays of hope. In the form of friendships that remained despite everything. In the face of a baby, born to a character loved and then lost. In the relationship between Katniss and Peeta that manages to go on despite both their pain and in the family and life they share.

Suzanne Collins ends this series on the biggest of highs and biggest of lows, leaving me as the reader feeling both devastated and fulfilled. Overall I鈥檓 happy with how the series ended, and sad to see it go, but I鈥檓 comforted knowing that every event, every moment of pain, all led to a world different than the one that started out, and even though it breaks my heart to say it, I think everything Collins wrote was necessary. And I wouldn鈥檛 change a single word of it!

Amazing, Brilliant, Incredible, Those are a few words I would use if asked to describe this book.

I've been waiting for this book since the second I finished reading Catching Fire, but I was slightly worried that I would be disappointed by the ending (Some books, unfortunately, do that.) Boy, was I ever glad to be wrong. I start I thought all of the deaths in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows was shocking, but I was wrong...

I've been waiting for this book since the second I finished reading Catching Fire, but I was slightly worried that I would be disappointed by the ending (Some books, unfortunately, do that.) Boy, was I ever glad to be wrong. I started reading this book at 7:30 p.m. and knew that it would be impossible to sleep if I only had it part way finished. I tried, I really did. I kept telling myself "OK, after this chapter, I'll go to sleep." Yeah... I kept telling myself that right up to the very end of the book... at 2:30 a.m.!! And after that, I was up for another hour because I couldn't stop thinking about it. lol

I was holding my breath-not literally of course-throughout the entire book, anxious, hoping neither Peeta or Gale was killed off. (I cried when it looked like Gale was dead.) But I breathed a sigh of relief when they were both alive and (mostly) healthy at the end.

As for a few-not all- other deaths that happened, here is what I thought.
CINNA: I was in denial about this one in Catching Fire. I really. really wanted him to be alive, because he was one of my favorite characters. (I kept telling myself that he MUST have gotten away somehow) After I resigned myself to the fact that he was dead, I was OK. Extremely sad, but OK.

Finnick: I burst into tears when Finnick died. And right after he got his Annie back, too.

Prim:OH. MY. GOSH. I did not see this one coming. At all. I was completely shocked. When I heard that some main characters might be killed, I thought Haymitch, Peeta, or even Gale. But Prim never ever crossed my mind. It didn't really even register with me at first. Not until Katniss found Buttercup looking for Prim, and then started yelling at him. Then I started crying again :( lol

The only thing that would have made me like this book even more than I already do, which is alot. Would be if the way it ended between Katniss and Gale, and Katniss and Peeta was a little different. As you know, in the first 2 books, the romance between Katniss and Peeta is a big part. But in Mockingjay, Peeta has been kidnapped, and isn't there for about 3/4 of the book. And, even after they get him back, he tries to kill Katniss, because Snow used Tracker Jacker venom to screw with his mind and change his memories of her. Slowly, he starts to comes back to himself, but I would have liked to have seen more of him and Katniss re-connecting before it ended.

And with Gale I feel like Katniss didn't get enough closure. After they get separated in the Capitol, you only ever see him one more time. The rest of the time, you just hear about him. And Katniss is so upset because she doesn't know if it Was Gale's fault Prim died, it just wasn't a happy meeting. I would have like to see things end with the two of them differently.

Overall, I am EXTREMELY happy with the way that it ended. Katniss and Peeta together =D (Even though I still like Gale, I will always be team Peeta.)

Thank-you, Suzanne Collins, for writing an absolutely amazing trilogy! I can't wait to see what you come up with next. :) ...more

I loved this book, it was amazing. I felt so sorry for Katniss though, she has been through so much and she carries a lot of guilt with her. She blames herself for so many things.

I found it really sad when Peeta was rescued and he came back 'hijacked' it really hit Katniss hard. Her feelings were described really well and I could empathise about what she was going through. I can't imagine having someone taken away from you and then when you finally get them back they're a completly different pe ...more

I'm sorry. But I just cannot believe how long I waited for this book, and it still gave me questions in the end. I was so disappointed.

Long story short. It didn't hit the ball out of the park. Quite the opposite, it stopped right in the middle of flying, and plunged onto an speculator who didn't see it coming.

wow. just, wow. Expect the unexpected I reckon-didn't see a fair bit coming! But the deaths. oooh, the deaths. Made me close the book for a minute or two, collect myself and read on :S
