I'd like to rate this higher, but I just found the sub story rather boring. I loved the story revolving around the "potion" I thought that was fantastic.

I just couldn't get into the story of when he went back in time. It dragged for me and I didn't really find any of it interesting.

The time travel, especially towards the end was really compelling.

Its a different sort of book for me - I generally don't go for time travel books, and I haven't read du Maurier in years so I wanted to give it a go

Dick Young is lent a house in Cornwall by his friend Professor Magnus Lane. During his stay he agrees to serve as a guinea pig for a new drug that Magnus has discovered in his biochemical researches. How disappointingly mediocre! Du Maurier is a fantastic author, and I have raved about how much I loved "Rebecca" and "Jamaica Inn"...., so what the heck happened with this novel?! The concept was brilliant, the ability to travel through time as an invisible observer, you can't touch anyone or you will be shot back to the present time, the addictive obsession with the people from the past, his mind becoming a jumble of past and present....yes! No. It was dull, tedious, and dragging as Du Maurier ...more
