What Members Thought

I'd like to rate this higher, but I just found the sub story rather boring. I loved the story revolving around the "potion" I thought that was fantastic.
I just couldn't get into the story of when he went back in time. It dragged for me and I didn't really find any of it interesting.
The time travel, especially towards the end was really compelling.

I read Daphne Du Maurier's My Cousin Rachel and loved it, so I picked up both Rebecca and The House on the Strand right away. I love this one too! And honestly, the whole time travel aspect was not something I was looking forward to as I am not a fan of science fiction. However this book is intricate and complex and unique. It is partly historical fiction, partly mystery. The characters inspire empathy; they are sometimes likable and often detestable. They are flawed and very real.

How disappointingly mediocre! Du Maurier is a fantastic author, and I have raved about how much I loved "Rebecca" and "Jamaica Inn"...., so what the heck happened with this novel?! The concept was brilliant, the ability to travel through time as an invisible observer, you can't touch anyone or you will be shot back to the present time, the addictive obsession with the people from the past, his mind becoming a jumble of past and present....yes! No. It was dull, tedious, and dragging as Du Maurier
