Some of my students have selected this book for reports and presentations over the years . Just to be clear, they are non-native speakers of English. Sometimes they select the book because it is short. I don't think they realize how intense it is , until they get into it, but few have ever regretted choosing it. Erin *Proud Book Hoarder*
I'm in book awe of Sula by Toni Morrison. This one had her talented writing style shining through again. As before, her characterization is rich. This didn't have as strong a solid tale. The hook was excellent, middle well done, it languished a bit thereafter, with a potent ending. And, as the book says, a fatal one.

Recommended. I'll go 4/5. I wouldn't put this as the first to start with by the author. This was her debut and I think that shows a little.

I was not impressed with this book. I understood the message the book was giving the reader, but I did not find myself drawn into the story. I was hoping for so much more.

My first Toni Morrison book! This was similar to The Great Gatsby in structure, as an observing character witnesses the tragedy of others. But rather than the idle rich, it is the working poor who are witnessed. There's also the feeling of To Kill a Mockingbird, as the observing character is a child, with that childlike mix of amusing naiveté and sharp observation.

The book also takes on the concept of beauty, and how ugliness and self-loathing is internalized by a thousand repetitions. A few to

I found this book to be very sad. It seemed like for some characters nothing ever went right. This was an O.k. book not one of my favorite books I have read.
