OHMYGOODNESS.

I didn't really avoid this book, but I wasn't going to go out of my way to read it. And when I did finally get it from the library (This was stupid of me. I should have spent the money to own it), I let it sit on my shelf while I happily gobbled up other books. Until finally it came down to Divergent or book with font I wanted to kick across the room. Wow, what an incredible, powerful read! I laughed, I cried. I was overjoyed, disgusted, stunned, excited. I smiled, I frowned. It was truly an amazing roller coaster ride for me. The story itself is very well-developed and the concept of this dystopian future comprised of five factions is interesting, creative, and effective for this book and the many sequels I hope will follow. The book starts with its female protagonist, Beatrice, who must make one choice that will transform her forever: at th Wow, what an incredible, powerful read! I laughed, I cried. I was overjoyed, disgusted, stunned, excited. I smiled, I frowned. It was truly an amazing roller coaster ride for me. The story itself is very well-developed and the concept of this dystopian future comprised of five factions is interesting, creative, and effective for this book and the many sequels I hope will follow. The book starts with its female protagonist, Beatrice, who must make one choice that will transform her forever: at the Choosing Ceremony, all sixteen-year-old teenagers must choose the faction that will become their new family for life, their future--either Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity, or Candor. Beatrice makes a decision that may surprise even herself, and it is nothing less than an act of bravery that lands her in Dauntless. There, she will make both friends and enemies, show strengths and weaknesses, face her fears, and possibly even find love along the way.

The Dauntless training section of the book is pretty intense and often brutal, and it kind of took me off guard. But I enjoyed seeing Tris--her new Dauntless name to fit her new identity and her new life--grow into a powerful, badass heroine, and I got to be with her every step of the way.

Brilliant. Absolutely, incredibly, brilliant. I LOVED this book and to those who haven't read it yet, I suggest you go out and do it asap! Fantastically written, plot line well constructed, original, engaging non-stop, characters=humanity - they were brilliant, very well developed and were human, meaning the characters' personalities were so realistic, I couldn't help but be connected with them. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this Book from the very first word til the very last word. It kept my interest. It was worth the time to Read.
I suggest this Book to people that appreciated "Hunger Games" and those people that want a GREAT read.
I LOVED Four and Beatrice/Tris. I don't want to give "SPOILERS" so I'll just say,"You read the Book, then let me know what you thought of it". I will give the Book "10 Stars".

July-August, 2015 I reread this Book again so I can read Insurgent to refresh myself. ...more

Finished Veronica Roth's book "Divergent". It was a great book. If it hadn't started out so slow I would have given it 5 stars. A very quickly read book.

Once the story got rolling the book was interesting enough to make me want to read another of her books. Was never sure where we were going at times but didn't care because it had me on the edge of my seat most of the time.

Would I recommend it to others: yes. Would I read it again: yes. ...more
