As Agatha worked at the local supermarket, disliking her boss, wishing she was elsewhere she admired Meghan Shaughnessy’s life. Meghan was pregnant and the mother’s group get together in the café opposite showed Meg laughing and talking with her friends. Agatha knew Meg had two other children - Lucy and Lachlan and she was envious of the happiness and lifestyle the family had. Their lives were perfect Agatha wished hers could be the same.

“The value of a secret depends upon whom you’re trying to keep it from. You may think it’s worth a lot. I may think it’s worthless. Someone always has to pay.
And she does pay in another good page-turner from Mr R, a favourite of many who can be relied on to throw his characters into all kinds of strife and see who survives to fight another day.

The Secrets She Keeps is a departure from the traditional psychological crime novels Michael Robotham is better known for (the Joseph O’Loughlin series). There’s no real investigative angle into a crime as such this book is all about the characters (not to say his other books aren’t by the way but there seems to be a considerable effort here to make the main characters shine); two in particular; Meg, a soon to be mother of three expecting her ‘oops baby and Agatha, a 30-something single who w

My first Michael Robotham book. Here he tells the story of Meg who is pregnant with her third unplanned child, and Agatha who is expecting her first child (or so she says). Agatha befriends Meg because she has something Agatha wants - Meg's perfect life.
This book had me interested from the start to the finish, excellently narrated as well. Would highly recommend to fans of thrillers and domestic noir novels. ...more

As soon as you start reading a book by Michael Robotham, you know you're in the hands of a master storyteller. This book is up there as one of his best - right from the beginning I was drawn in by the story, the characters, the tension and suspense. The plot and characters were totally believable - satisfying in every way.

This was a great psychological thriller, kept you wanting more. Agatha and Meaghan are both having a baby, Agatha’s first and Meaghan’s third, unplanned. They have vastly different backgrounds but something they have in common is a dangerous secret. Agatha thinks Meaghan has the perfect life, perfect marriage, perfect husband, perfect children. She is persistent in trying to develop a relationship with Meaghan and their worlds collide in a shocking act that cannot be undone.
