I'm sorry, I can't read it any more. Maybe I'll give it a try some other time when I'll be in the mood for reading disappointing books.

First of all I want to tell you that I AM a Jeaniene Frost fan. I've read all her books except One Grave at a Time and loved them! They are on my All-Time-Favorites list.
I've been waiting to read Vlad's story forever! He was one of my favorites in Night Huntress series, and I'm also Romanian so I had great expectations of Once Burned.

From the first moment I read about Vlad Tepesh I have been waiting for this book. Vlad is my favourite ch 鈥淚鈥檓 the only authentic Vlad. Everyone else is merely an envious imitation.鈥�

From the first moment I read about Vlad Tepesh I have been waiting for this book. Vlad is my favourite character in the Night Huntress series and I am so very happy that he finally got his own book. Having said that I was a little worried that this book wouldn't live up to my dreams of who Vlad is... I had nothing to worry about. Once Burned is a fantastic book full of adventure, passion and endless egomaniacal comments.

When you have a character like Vlad you know that the heroine needs to be someone strong and passionate, someone who will put him in his place and not be afraid of him... that woman's name is Leila. I'm definitely putting Leila on my list of awesome heroines. She's no Cat but she's still strong and well written. The thing I loved the most about her character was that she has this special ability and it wasn't something she was born with, there was no radioactive spider involved, it was simply an accident. One day Leila touched an exposed power line and wham! she becomes a walking power line. I really enjoyed her power, I think it's super cool and the fact that Vlad is immune made it all that much more HOT. I also loved the way she talked back to Vlad and how she told him straight out that he is an egotistical bastard. It's nice to have a strong heroine again.

The book is told from Leila's POV and I think it worked really well. It was really funny reading her thoughts and knowing that Vlad could hear every word. He made me smile every time he opened his mouth and I couldn't wait to hear what he thought of Leila's musing. It did feel a bit like Cat and Bones at times but I think Leila and Vlad are different enough from them to separate the characters.

Vlad was everything I love about him, egotistical and HOT with that fire just making him that little bit more exciting. I love how whenever he gets mad Leila smelled smoke and that no matter what happened he stuck true to the man/ monster that he is. I am so truly in love with Vlad I can't even find the words to describe him, once again Frost has managed to suck me in so much that I never wanted it to end! God I'd love to live in this world.

The ending was a bit mean though, I really expected there to be some resolution between Leila and Vlad but like the great author that she is, Frost has made it impossible to not read the next one in the series. I cannot WAIT for the next book!

This book was AMAZING! I loved every bit of it! Leila is a heroine much like my all time favorites; strong, smart, SNARKY and with a never give up or give in attitude. I love a character that comes in strong and still manages to show growth. She's brilliant. And a lot of fun to read. I could tell you a lot more about her, but why ruin the surprise? You really need to experience it all right along with her.

Great start to a new series. It's everything you love about the Night Huntress series: action, humor, smoldering sex, and great characters. Cat and Bones, as well as a few others, make a quick appearance. Vlad and Leila have great chemistry and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book. Spring can't get here fast enough. If you were on the fence about Vlad before, you'll definitely be Team Vlad when you're done! ...more

o goodness, I'm hooked.

I LOVE LOVE LOVED this world that Jeaniene Frost has created. I was mad at myself for most of the book because I haven't read anything from her before this. This first book was beyond fabulous and I am absolutely in love with Leila and Vlad!

The plot was so incredibly interesting and I was never sure what Vlad or the other vampires would do next and I was constantly surprised (and always in a good way!). I LOVED Leila and Vlad's interactions and LOVED the way she knew exact ...more

For those who are wondering if it can be read without the Night Huntress books, my answer is YES! Cat, Bones, Mencheres and Kira make their appearance in one scene and only a for a few lines (which was hilarious... Bones and Vlad at one place? PRICELESS! But those who haven't read the Night Huntress book will find it funny too). Other than that, the whole story is about Vlad, Leila and their own world with their own problems.

Why yes readers, some things are well worth waiting for. The first book in Jeaniene Frost鈥檚 Night Prince Series definitely falls into that category. How could it not? With Vlad as the main attraction, Once Burned had no choice.

Although this is Vlad鈥檚 book, it is written from Leila鈥檚 POV. I think this may have thrown some readers, at least from some of the reviews that I skimmed through that鈥檚 the impression that I鈥檝e gotten. Although this is Vlad鈥檚 book, it is written from Leila鈥檚 POV. I had no problem with getting the story from another character. The fact that it was written from her POV helped the reader not only to get to know her a little bit better than you might have otherwise, it also leant a little extra mystery to Vlad. In the Night Huntress books, you get hints of Vlad from people who have known him forever鈥� (quite literally for some.) Getting a fresh perspective on Vlad was interesting. Even though we鈥檝e seen him in many of the previous books, other than knowing about his loyalty to his friends and his power there isn鈥檛 a whole lot that we know about him personally. Given that this is a series, it鈥檚 fair that by the end of Once Burned we鈥檙e still left in the dark about him to some extent.

Leila鈥檚 story is heartbreaking, but her strength and what she has done with the hand she has been dealt is amazing. I really liked her a lot. She seems to be a good match for Vlad, in so many ways. The other characters that were introduced were great too. I loved Maximus and this book has made me hope that we get to see more of him in the rest of the series.

As expected from this world Frost has created, there was plenty of action, mystery, tension and romance *cough* Chapter 36 *cough* (You know there always has to be at least one chapter that deserves a couple of re-reads 鈥� umm鈥� just to make sure you read it right the first time )

Vlad was perfect from the perspective he was written. He is guarded and he takes his responsibility to those he considers 鈥榟is鈥� very seriously. In some ways, he was all business in Once Burned. He is honest and shielded and after hearing more of his back story, that鈥檚 totally understandable. I now understand why Vlad鈥檚 story is a series instead of just an installment of the Night Huntress World Series.

Speaking of the Night Huntress World, a few of our lovable characters made a quick appearance in Once Burned. Bones was true to form. Leila鈥檚 description of him was great, even better was the fact that he knew what she was thinking. The mind reading aspect was both a curse and a blessing throughout most of the book. I鈥檝e always thought that is not a power I would want to have. I am now positive that I don鈥檛 want it and don鈥檛 want to run into anyone who has it. *shivers*

Once Burned didn鈥檛 end in a cliff hanger exactly, but you are definitely going to be wishing for the next installment once you finish. Spring 2013 can鈥檛 come soon enough. *sigh* ...more
