This dual timeline story is connected through a steamboat. Devyn Asbury is the wedding coordinator for the 100 year old steamboat Belle of Louisville. Even though her own marriage fell through, she loves helping everyone make their wedding dreams come true. A century earlier, Hattie Louis is the adopted daughter of the steamboat captain of the Belle of Louisville. When Chase Jones shows up with a photo from the 1920's showing someone on the Belle, will Devyn and Chase be able to put the pieces t

Anchored by a historic riverboat, Undercurrent of Secrets links past and present in a tale featuring two sweet love stories. Readers will enjoy the lively banter and the relatable themes of finding yourself and following your dreams. Romance, adventure, and mystery abound in this charming split-time story!

Undercurrent of Secrets is part of the Doors to the Past Series published by Barbour Publishing. I love dual timeline stories and this one hooked me from the beginning and wouldn't let go. I haven't read much of Rachel Scott McDaniel's work but I loved this one. Setting the story on the Belle of Louisville was perfect and added to the entire ambiance of the story. The mystery of the woman in the torn photograph made the pacing of the story balanced and kept the plot moving along. I thoroughly en

She has done it again! Rachel Scott McDaniel has written a book that has captivated me through and through and let's not even forget mentioning the swoon worthy moments you will encounter while reading this completely intriguing dual time storyline. I must say that sometimes dual time line stories are not all equal, meaning that sometimes you get sucked into one timeline more than another, that is not the case with this story. You are equally immersed in both and intrigued by both so much that a

This dual timeline novel that takes place 100 years apart on the legendary Belle of Louisville steamboat hit it right on all levels for me. The two storylines were equally entertaining and sweet with just the right amount of mystery and intrigue to keep me turning the pages. This author has a great voice for both historical and contemporary storytelling. I hope this isn't the last split time novel she writes.

"The river wore starlight like a jeweled gown, an ancient garment that never grew old."
Undercurrent of secrets is a surprisingly delightful read! At first, I thought it would be just an average contemporary romance, only to find myself completely caught up in both the storyline and characters by the halfway point. I loved how the riverboat literally became a main character and found both present-day and past history fascinating. A torn photograph takes us ...more

There's something about a vintage riverboat that evokes romance and a time when life was slower paced, and Undercurrent of Secrets by Rachel Scott McDaniel, the latest novel in the Doors to the Past series, perfectly captures these emotions.
The novel features an actual riverboat, a National Historic Landmark, with a long and unique history. The contemporary story centers around Devyn, Chase, and the ship’s current name, the Belle of Louisville, while the historic plot features Hattie, Jack, and ...more
