I've watched reviews where people have said they couldn't fully enjoy this book because they hated every single character in it. I didn't hate the main character. Maybe because I just finished reading American Psycho and it's hard to hate anyone "normal" after Pat Bateman. Three years ago, I read "Nilda" in my creative writing class and knew that I had to read more from Diaz. What I enjoy most about his writing style in this collection is its accessibility. These are "love" stories that people understand and sometimes relate to (an unfortunate fact in many cases).
