OMG, you guys. I D K WHAT my problem was all of December, but I did *not* want to pick up a book. That is nothing against this wonderful thing, because WOW WOW WOW did I love Sorcery of Thorns! It was like a mixture of the anime Black Butler and Howl's Moving Castle AND I WAS FREAKING HERE FOR IT. I could also tell Margaret Rogerson took so much time and care to flesh out the story -- not only was I wholly immersed every tim

Hands down, one of my favorite books of 2019! I don't think there was a single thing I didn't like about this book. There were the most endearing characters (especially Silas omg!), fascinating plot and I loved all of the twists and turns.

My favorite part would definitely be the characters. I loved reading about Elisabeth, Nathaniel and Silas. The banter between Elisabeth and Nathaniel were adorable and I loved the relationship that developed between the two of them. I

The end of this book had me tearing my hair out because it was SO CLOSE to being a five star read for me, but the end just let it down. The premise is brilliant, I loved the concept of books with souls that let them talk and have personalities. Rogerson did a wonderful job of painting a picture of Elisabeth's world, everything about it was captivating, and it was fantastic that there was something a little bit different.

The magic system had some original elements and the idea of needing to make

I thought the book started really good. I enjoyed the premise and the concept of grimoires - very fascinating!
And then.... It just started feeling very one-dimensional. The story fell flat. Every chapter was about Elisabeth and Nathaniel and Silas. Like there were literally only three characters in a 700 page odd book.
There were a few other guest characters but they were truly - guest.
And hence, I didn’t enjoy the book as much as I thought I would have.

I really, immensely, ecstatically enjoyed this book! So much to the point where I wish this wasn’t a standalone! I want more Elisabeth, more Silas, and most definitely, I want more Nathaniel!

The only teeny tiny little issue I had is that some things that happened were slightly convenient and that they only happened to further the plot of the book.

Other than that, I want more!

I've been craving a re-read, and I'm so excited to have a sequel novella to immediately jump into. This book was even more satisfying the second time. It has everything I love - libraries, magic, demons, swords, queer rep, banter, Darcy/Elizabeth vibes, whump, and cats. Honestly, I couldn't ask for a more Me book. ...more

This is a whimsical, magical tale, containing touches of humour and romance as well as found family and strong friendships.

I liked the role reversal of the male and female leads in this book, it goes against what we usually see in fantasy novels. Elizabeth is physically strong and skilled with a sword, whereas Nathaniel wields the magic (and needs saving a lot). Occasionally Elizabeth’s character made some annoyingly silly moves, but on the whole I did enjoy her as our lead. She’s strong minded,

I was nervous to pick this book up because of the polarizing reviews but I’m so happy to say that I really enjoyed it! The world and the sorcery elements were really interesting and I loved learning about the magical libraries. The writing is very descriptive and beautiful without being overly flowery. There is also LGBTQA+ representation which I really appreciated! Nathaniel explicitly tells Elisabeth that he likes boys and girls. Elisabeth also suggests that her friend Katrien may be asexual.

Never thought a stand alone fantasy can be this well done. Rogerson did an amazingjob with this book, every flaw her debut book had was nonexistent in Sorcery of thorns.

I cann0t get over how amazing the world was, the libraries filled with sentient grimoires and sorcerers with their demons, everything was just so well done. Elizabeth was a delight to read about and having Silas as her snarky sidekick made a very entertaining story.

Absolutely enchanting, I have no idea what I thought this book would be about but it turned out to be fantastically charming, full of books and magic and swords.
