Probably one of the best books I have read on spiritualism. The language was simple yet thought provoking, and although I knew the story I was kept intrigued by the change of narrators throughout the story. Elif brings the focus back of life back to love, the ultimate quest in every human beings life. For me as a born Muslim, Sufis are the only ones who have made sense of Islam. all in all, a good book. but sprinkled here and there, more towards the end are things I don't completely agree with. however it has piqued my interest in checking out rumi's poetry sometime in my life. but more importantly to rediscover my own self. I guess everyone can take something different from this book. it's well written as well. except for a few parts and several unanswered questions that I am left with, I liked it. shams of tabriz is someone I would be thinking about for a while now. ...more

I enjoyed the story about Rumi and Shams. The ideas, or rules, were good

The storyline with Ella was American pablum, without much value or satisfaction, and oh so very predictable. I think it was a marketing mistake to include this element.
