I found the book extremely difficult to get into at the start. It cut back and forth to varied timelines, characters and there was little to connect to or engage with. Once the story settled down, I found it to be quite enjoyable, if I felt a bit stretched because there just seemed too many characters and themes.
As I approached the ending, I found myself lost as to how the book was going to end and whether or not there was a point to all of it. I was disappointed, however not surprised when the ...more

Overall a very good book - quirky, thought-provoking, fun and dramatic and entertaining. Two things, however, keep it from getting 5 stars from me. One, the book is slow to get to its central plot. Two, it ends as if there was supposed to be another chapter or two, which is to say very abruptly and without clear resolution. Despite its shaky take-off and sudden landing, The Long Earth is a remarkable journey into the pioneering spirit of humanity and the limitless potential of our world(s).

Basic review: Very decent read!
*Characters: Not terrific. The characters had so much potential, but were not well developed.
*Story: The idea behind the story is quite intriguing and got the imagination going.
The intro was too long and I feel that there were a few too many people's destinies intertwined with one another, but all in all, it was a pleasant read. This book was pretty entertaining, but I probably am not motivated enough to buy the sequel. ...more

I couldn't finish it. I found it slow and read over half and was never pulled into the story or cared where it went. Good plot idea though.

I thought it was quite wonderful. It took a while to get going, but, once it did, it went very well. I'm excited to see what the sequel has in store! The Long War, 20th June, 2013
