I don't think anyone's going to deny that since the Twilight phenomenon has taken off, there has been a HUGE surge of vampire series popping up. Vampire Academy, House of Night, Evernight, something with the word Beach in it (lol)... ever since they have swarmed the shelves, I have made a vow to avoid these books at all costs. It's only when I found the Vampire Academy series at Kmart for only $10 each that I figured there was no harm in trying them out.

Honestly? I was PLEASANTLY surprised. Vam

After having been recommended to me so many times, I finally got a copy from the library.

From the first page, I was enraptured as I follow the adventure of two girls, so different from each other but bound by friendship and something much more.

Rose is the smart-mouthed body guard-in-training for the beautiful, princess Lissa. The story opened with them on the run, only to be captured and brought back into the academy.

Mead's writing is fluid, and easy to follow, and before I know it, I'm as cau

If you loved Twilight, you'll love this book. Original. Well-written. A very quick read. I can't wait until I can get to the library to get the next once. Totally addictive mind candy. ...more

Amazon.com recommended that I try this vampire series because I have purchased both the Twilight Series and True Blood DVDs. I must admit that I am having a bit of a romance with it. I enjoy the characters and the twists that the author has added to vampire lore. I am looking forward to reading more of the series

This book was a freebie in a goodie bag. I only started it because it fit a reading challenge, but I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely YA and full of the angst/bitchiness/gossip/parasuicide attempts/crushes and teenage sexuality that you'd expect in a caricature of a YA novel, but a fun read. The heroine (Rose) is a strong character, but the vampire princess she exists to defend is definitely a wet noodle. (thanks to another reviewer for that phrase, it's perfect). If it wasn't for their magi ...more

Ehh this book is not for me. I hate books directed to young women that have violent stupid shallow girls competing with and fighting with each other over their attractiveness and their sex appeal to boys. Then add an emo cutting vampire to it and ugh. Also I immediately figured out the entire plot, so it wasn't even a suspenseful read. There were typos in the book too. I do not think the world building makes any sense either. The best part was that it was fast and silly. ...more

Brainless and entertaining (everything I look for in a young adult novel).

A much more enjoyable teenage vamp novel than Twilight and a hell of a lot shorter. And Dimitri is hotter than Edward even sans super powers and glistening under sunlight (which is just lame, by the way).

Won in a Twitter competition. I'm rating this solely on the Spirit Bound chapter. I enjoyed it, but I think they could have picked a better chapter. One that wasn't the update chapter :(

Nevertheless, I'm so excited to read it! I'll have to start the series over before it's released. Eeee!
