This book looked interesting, but I was disappointed that (like Uglies, the only other Scott Westerville book I've read) it didn't live up to its potential. The characters didn't have sufficient motivation to do the things they did, and the villains seemed no different from the heroes. As a result, the story was confusing and hard to follow.

There's something that feels so authentic about the way Westerfeld's first-person protagonist speaks and thinks that listening to the audio-book feels more like listening to him talk than like reading a book. His name is Hunter, and he's a teenager who works as a "trend setter," trying to spot the next "cool" thing.

Perfectly entertaining, slightly dated young adult novel about a kid/young man who makes money by identifying fashion trends and participating in focus groups. A somewhat convoluted plot weighs down the effort to talk about culture and coolness, leaving the book swinging a bit between efforts to be fast paced almost spy-novel-light and trying to say something deeper about culture. SO much better than Uglies. It's laugh-out-loud funny (and so entertaining when you're trying to guess what brand Hunter is being cryptic about).
