What Members Thought

While this is an interesting read and does pull you along as a reader nicely, I found the characters lacking a little bit of realism. Helen is very much portrayed as a saint who can do no harm to anyone and has been dealt a horrible and tragic life from which she is determined to survive, a true unblemished hero. Her husband is equally portrayed as a true villain, cruelly taking advantage of his wife's good nature and selfishly doing whatever he wants. I generally prefer a story with characters

I was going to give this four stars until the end lost some of its steam. The heroine of this book was very interesting to me. We see her make mistakes as a young woman, and then the choices she makes as she tries to live with the consequences of her actions. I pitied her struggles with her husband, but then also got tired of her righteousness. It's also funny how immature and annoying the "good guy" is most of the time.
