**Re-read May 2013**
The Great Gatsby is a masterpiece that chronicles the rise and fall of a man, during the excesses of the Roaring Twenties, the decade of Jazz and Prohibition. I read it for the first time 5 years ago and loved it, so I was ecstatic a the idea of reading it again. I’ve never read a book that managed such vivid descriptions with such sparse language.

This is another classic that I'm glad to have finally read even though I didn't particularly enjoy it. Now I won't have to feel like I'm missing out when people talk about this book. It just isn't a very pleasant story, and I didn't care about any of the characters - even the narrator. It does contain some elegant writing, but that isn't enough to make me like it. I'm not sorry that I read it, but I'm glad that I won't ever have to read it again.

Reread this classic figuring that I might get to see the new movie version. I didn't really like this book the first time that I read it many years ago. I think I found the story okay, but not especially compelling. This time, I was completely gripped by the book both as an interesting story as well as a commentary on the American Dream as a concept. Now I am fully prepared to see the movie version. All I need is a free afternoon and a babysitter...maybe I'll have to wait for the movie to be on
