Jack Torrance takes a job as caretaker of the Overlook hotel for the winter. The Overlook is an isolated hotel in Colorado and once the snow comes it is cut off from the rest of the world. Jack is accompanied by his wife Wendy and his son Danny who has the gift of shining. Danny can sometimes see the future and can read peoples thoughts. Even as a re-read, this book is scary. King is a master at building suspense. The first time I read this I had to take breaks when things got to be too much for me.
