I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I really enjoyed reading it. I felt a kindred connection with Li Lan. I didn't care too much for the ghost groom. I thought Li Lan was brave to go through the trials that she had to overcome. I really liked Tan Bai. I was hoping he and Li Lan would end up together.

This was an excellent book. I listened to it on audio and cannot recommend that enough because the names to get proper pronunciation. The author reads it and does such a good job at doing all the different characters. The story pulled me very quickly and took a turn about a quarter of the way in that I did not expect. I enjoyed this mix of historical fiction and fantasy. The author has expended on some Chinese legends and made an enchanting story.
