When a story has no supernatural shit going on, I tend to like it better. +1, Mr. Mercedes.
When a story has giant asinine leaps of logic, I find it harder to stay with it. Don't get me wrong. The pages turned. But by the time that (view spoiler) I was like, "WHERE IS THIS COMING FROM?!" and THIS and THIS and THIS, just all over the entire story. Things didn't add up. It ...more

I listened to this as my first ever audiobook and despite the three star rating, I really enjoyed it. I don't necessarily think it is one of Stephen King's best, and I have to admit, after 17 hours I was getting a little bit sick of the sound of the narrator, but in terms of an audiobook experience, it has got me hooked. The opening was amazing. I switched off the iPod and just sat there, thinking "wow". As the story went on, with Bill Hodges on the hunt for the psychopathic Mercedes Killer, I f

I really enjoyed this book!
Bill Hodges a retired Detective is dealing with life after retiring from the force, and the guilt associated with going out without having solved one of the most notorious cases of his career. The Mercedes Killer!
Bill Hodges receives a letter in the mail one day that starts a chain of events, from which there is no turning back. This is something Bill Hodges has to follow through with, as it has breathed some life back into him and given him purpose once more.

Bill Hodges is a retired cop in a deep depression until he receives a letter from the Mercedes Killer, a man who drove a stolen Mercedes into a line of people waiting for a job fair, killing 8. Bill takes on tracking Mr. Mercedes on his own with the eventual help of the sister of the owner of the Mercedes, Janey Patterson. A mystery/thriller without any horror/fantasy elements. The characters were well drawn and the killer is a real nut.

I "read" the audio version of Mr. M...glad I did..think it added depth to the chacters. Think this novel got some lousy reviews ..I really liked it. Bill Hodges is a very likable ret det..the surrounding cast of good guys is superb. The bad guy was surely bad. Mr. King is one of the best.
